|What is the Battlefield Area Troglodyte Society?
The Battlefield Area Troglodyte Society, better known as BATS, is a National Speleological Society (NSS)-affiliated caving club (or grotto). We are a non-profit educational organization whose members share a common interest in caves and caving. Our primary goals are to provide a means for local cavers to meet and go caving and to educate people in the sport of caving in a positive, conservation-minded manner. We welcome the opportunity to provide information on caves and caving to educational groups, and will try to accommodate requests to go caving with us.
Who are we?
The Battlefield Area Troglodyte Society was founded in Fredericksburg, Virginia. BATS members hail from all over Virginia and the greater D.C. metropolitan region. We're also scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada.
When and where do we meet?
We hold meetings the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Anyone interested may attend. Our monthly meeting starts at 7:00 PM and follows a formal agenda that includes a business meeting, trip reports and trip planning, and a caving-related program. Program topics range from videos and slideshow presentations about cave exploration to hands-on activities designed to build your caving credentials.
